Frequently Asked Questions

Typical questions we receive about accessing Sunningdale Park.
Can I walk and cycle on the Estate?
Contrary to many people’s understanding, there isn't a public right of way across the entire Estate, instead there are designated areas of the park for the public to enjoy, known as the SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace).

Except for grasslands and paths within the SANG, see park map here, the Estate roads and paths are private and not for the public to use for recreational purposes or to be used as a shortcut.

Cycling within the SANG area of the park is not permitted, due to the layout of the park and some of the paths.
What is the SANG?
SANG stands for Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space. This is an area that is aimed at protecting a Special Protection Area (SPA). A SPA is part of a European-wide network of sites of international importance for nature conservation established under the European Community Wild Birds and Habitat directives.

In the case of Sunningdale Park Estate, members of the public have been granted access to the designated SANG area for recreational use. The SANG is privately managed by the Land Trust charity.

For more information, please visit the Land Trust's webpage for Sunningdale Park.
Can I fly a drone on the Estate?
No, whilst photography is permitted in the SANG parkland, drone flying is NOT permitted in the estate, except where permission has been granted.
Where can I park on the Estate?
Parking for members of the public is available at the Silwood Road (B383) entrance to Sunningdale Park.

Members of the public are not permitted to drive or park further onto Linnet Drive after the SANG public car park. See Park map for guidance. Parking enforcement is in operation and fines will be issued to vehicles parking in private areas.
Can I have barbecues in the designated SANG part of the park?
Given the natural grasslands and woodlands on the Estate, combined with increasing risk of wildfires due to climate change, we ask members of the public not to light fires or barbeques within Sunningdale Park.
Can I ride horses on the Estate?
No, horse riding is unfortunately not permitted anywhere in Sunningdale Park. Riders found within the estate including the SANG parkland will be asked to leave.
